After studying physics at Durham University, Dougal began his career at The Leith Agency, Edinburgh, as a copywriter. In 2001 he moved to London to begin directing through Blink. Since then he is responsible for directing and eclectic body of work that includes commercials for Orange, Olympus, Becks, Vodaphone, BBC, JCPenney, Coca-Cola and Amnesty International. He received D&AD Pencils in 2006 for his Orange ‘Dance’ spot for Mother and again in 2008 for Big Yellow Storage for CHI.
His music videos are equally celebrated. Dougal has won Best Music Video Director at the British CADS twice and The Best Video of the Year at The Rushes Soho Shorts Festival also twice. His video for Bat For Lashes won the Best Video of 2007 at the Antville Music Video Awards and was nominated for MTV Best video award. Other music video clients include Coldplay, Goldfrapp, The Streets, Will Young, Basement Jaxx, Dizee Rascal, Benassi and Jarvis Cocker to name but a few.
His recent work includes a COI Fire Safety spot for Rainey Kelly, Orange Rockcorps for Fallon and Coke ‘Yeah Yeah Year La La La’ through Mother.
